AnnaBeta was designed, under the supervision of Gerard Unger,
while Jan Sonntag was still a student at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. The AnnaBeta Typeface, which falls into the 'modern' family of type styles, is not based upon any
traditional model and is not an attempt to revive or reconstruct any historic type. Because it avoids the extreme contrast of thick and thin elements that mark most modern faces, AnnaBeta
provides a new 'texture' in book and newspaper pages. A very large x-heigh, short ascenters and descenters makes it very economical in composition. AnnaBeta is available in three weights, Light, Regular and Bold.
In 2006 the AnnaBeta was adapted to the Opentype-format and completed with the Basic Latin and Latin Extended-A Characterset. Finally, users of high-end layout programs with Opentype functionality
will appreciate the presence of Oldstyle Figures, Fractions, Ligatures, Discretionary Ligatures, Denominators, Numerators, Superscript and Scientific Inferiors.
